What is QC?
Quick Charge (QC) is a proprietary Qualcomm battery charging protocol used for managing power delivered over USB, mainly by communicating to the power supply and negotiating a voltage. Quick Charge is supported by devices such as mobile phones which have Qualcomm SOCs, and by some chargers; both device and charger must support QC, otherwise QC charging is not attained. It charges batteries in devices faster than standard USB allows by increasing the voltage, while adopting techniques to prevent the battery damage caused by uncontrolled fast charging. Most chargers supporting Quick Charge 2.0 and later are wall adaptors, but it is implemented on some in-car chargers, and some power banks use it to both receive and deliver charge.
What is PPS?
Programmable Power Supply (PPS)
It is one of the new additions to the PD3. 0 standard and it allows for dynamic re-negotiation of non-standard voltages and currents between the charger and the client. It is a bit similar in principal to how Qualcomm's Quick Charge works, if you are familiar with that.
What is PD?
Power Delivery (PD) is a specification for handling higher power and allows a range of devices to charge quickly over a USB connection. It operates by facilitating a conversation between two devices to negotiate a power contract so they can determine how much power can be pulled from the charger. Power Delivery starts at the 5V setting and is configurable up to 20V. Using a standard USB-C cable, it can handle up to 60W, and will go up to 100W using a designated EMCA cable.
Another point of interest regarding Power Delivery is that it allows for power to flow both ways, with no set direction based on circuit or connection. For example, if you were to connect two phones that support Power Delivery with a USB-C charging cable, one phone could charge the other and vice versa.
